Claire Danes had her parents by her side as she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday. The 36-year-old looked thrilled to have the support of her proud parents at the unveiling of her star, an honour which she said had left her "overwhelmed".

Looking glamorous in a red midi dress and strappy heels, Claire took the opportunity to pay tribute to her parents and thank her fans for their support.

"This is really cool to see my fans come here and cheer me on," she said. "That just means so very much to me. And of course, my parents are here. These are the two without whom I would be doing something else entirely."

Claire added that she was happy with the placing of her star, which is located outside a building constructed to house actors.

She said: "This is a little overwhelming and totally wonderful. I just learned that this building was built for actors because actors were such an unreliable unseemly bunch and they could never pay their rent and they needed some charity, so it's appropriate that I reside here.

"I'll give you the rent next month," Claire joked.

The Homeland actress also couldn't suppress her smile as the show's creator Alex Gansa took to the podium and praised her for her acting, telling the crowd: "I've watched Claire for five years now and I can tell you this – I've never seen anything like it.

"She can make you laugh, she can break your heart and she can do it all in the same sentence. I honestly don't know what I'll do when I don't have Claire to write for anymore."

He added: "Congratulations on your star, you are surely the brightest one I have seen."

While Claire's parents Carla and Christopher were present to witness her achievement, two people who were noticeably absent were her husband Hugh Dancy and their two-year-old son Cyrus. The couple were last seen on the red carpet together at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
