Daniel O'Donnell is the third celebrity contestant to be voted off this year's Strictly Come Dancing competition. The singer left the show after facing Kirsty Gallacher in this week’s dance-off.His low judge's scores combined with the results of the viewers' votes meant the Danny Boy singer had to pull off a well-executed routine to beat Kirsty. Unfortunately, Daniel and his professional dance partner Kristina Rihanoff's American Smooth, performed to Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To The Moon, was not enough to convince the judges that they should remain in the competition.

His competition, sports news anchor Kirsty and her partner Brendan Cole, put in an impressive performance of their Paso Doble to Beautiful Day by U2.After both couples had danced a second time the judges gave their verdicts.Straight talking judge Craig Revel-Horwood said: "One couple did really, really well in the dance off and one couple I am afraid made a lot of mistakes. I am going for the couple that was the most powerful, and that was Kristy and Brendan. "Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli agreed with Craig and chose to save Kirsty and Brendan. Italian judge Bruno said: "I would like to keep the couple that committed less mistakes tonight, and that is Kirsty and Brendan."

Daniel and Kristina's Ameican Smooth wasn't enough to save them

Following the elimination the show’s host Tess Daly asked Daniel if he had enjoyed his time of the show. "Absolutely," Daniel replied, adding: "Whatever I have given [to the show], I have received tenfold - absolutely and honestly. I want to say thank you to all the people who voted. "Praising her partner Kristina said, "You were such a joy to work with; you are the most wonderful guy, always there with a smile, always ready to learn. It was an absolutely wonderful experience for me, so thank you so much. "Next week the remaining twelve couples will take to the dancefloor once more on BBC One at 6.35pm on Saturday 24.
