Paul Hollywood and Sue Perkins react to GBBO 'sabotage' claims

It was a first on The Great British Bake Off – viewers on Wednesday saw Iain Watters walk out of the baking tent after a disaster with his Baked Alaska. With no dessert to judge, he became the fourth baker to be voted off the show. But some viewers are claiming he was the victim of sabotage after fellow contestant Diana was seen removing his pudding from her freezer.

Sue Perkins, who presents the show with Mel Giedroyc, and judge Paul Hollywood have since responded to the claims.

"Iain's Alaska was out of the freezer for 40 secs," Sue tweeted.

"That's it. No sabotage. 40 secs of normal temp would NOT be enough to reduce it to liquid." Paul also took to Twitter.

"At the end of the day Mary & I need something to judge , it's not about melted ice cream but about what's presented to us… #bingate."

He added, "I'm glad Mary's not on twitter this would upset her. "Iain, 31, was seen storming out of the baker's tent after his Baked Alaska failed to set and he threw it in the bin. But there was controversy after Diana was accused of removing his desert from the freezer, saying,

"He's got his own freezer, hasn't he."

Speaking of the incident, Iain said, "My worst moment has to be 'bin-cident'. I didn't handle the pressure in the tent as well as everyone else. It was a very hot day with everyone fighting for space in the freezers, and I didn't feel that I coped with the situation very well."

I am passionate as a personality and a baker, so I do tend to get frustrated when the bakes don't go well, and I will have to learn to deal with that."
