AUDREY TAUTOU

Audrey Tatou picked up several best actress awards for her role in the 1999 comedy Vénus beauté, but the film was destined to bring her far more than just trophies. Acclaimed French director Jean Pierre Jeunet happened upon a poster for the flick just after British actress Emily Watson dropped out of his production, Amelie, and he promptly decided to offer her the title role. Looking back, the filmmaker must think it something of an irony she wasn't his first choice, because the petite star's quirky charm helped make the movie an international hit. After once again winning the plaudits of critics for her performance in Dirty Pretty Things, Audrey signed up for her most high-profile appearance to date, starring opposite Tom Hanks in a big screen version of The Da Vinci Code.
