Swashbuckling Sharpe star Sean is practically unrecognisable now from photos of him as a bespectacled teen with questionable fashion sense. Famous for his rugged good looks and tough-guy roles, the Sheffield-born star gained heart-throb status as rifleman Richard Sharpe battling the forces of Napoleon.
An old image from the family album shows that the RADA-educated hunk, who worked in his father's welding firm before becoming an actor, didn't always look the part, however. It's true to say he was more geek than gorgeous before his heroic onscreen exploits set female hearts aflutter across the nation.
