Sophie Okonedo
Sophie was also brought up in a single-parent family by her mum Joan. Their North London home may have lacked for luxuries, but there were always plenty of books and Joan encouraged her daughter's interests in the arts.
Fittingly, she was walking with Sophie on Hampstead Heath when the actress found out about her Oscar nomination for Hotel Rwanda, and she accompanied the 37-year-old to both the Baftas and the Academy Awards that year.
