Recreates Sophia Loren's smoldering presence
British director Stephen Frears says the first time her saw Penelope Cruz he was overwhelmed by the Spanish actress' beauty. "She reminded me of the whole history of European cinema - you know, all those great actresses like Loren." In her recent film Volver, the star drew the same comparison from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. "I wanted a beautiful housewife like Sophia Loren in the Italian role," he says.
