||In the hit TV series Desperate Housewives Eva Longoria plays a former runway model turned frustrated homemaker. In real life the Mexican-American performer is anything but dissatisfied. Suddenly one of the hottest properties in the acting world, she's also inked a million-dollar deal as the new face of L'Oreal.
The diminutive actress – she's just 5ft 2in – says she's proud to be part of the new wave of Latin performers making it in Hollywood, but she warns there's still a long way to go. "We’re so under represented as far as reflecting our society accurately," she says. "We are 13 per cent of the population, so there is still a big lack of representation, although I think we are headed in the right direction."
On a more personal level, Eva also admits to feeling delighted with her newfound sex symbol status. "I grew up an ugly duckling," she revealed. "They used to call me prieta fea (ugly dark one), because I was the only one of my family’s four girls with dark hair, dark eyes, and dark skin. So when that came out, I was like, 'Ha, somebody thinks I am beautiful!'."
