Katie Holmes reveals teachers told her she was 'not perfect' as a young girl

Katie Holmes visited The Jimmy Fallon Show on Monday to talk about her new film The Giver, but she also revealed the criticism she received at modelling school.

"They were trying to teach beauty," said Katie of the instructors at her school. "They took me as an example and they dissected my face. They said, ‘you see, not perfect. Her eyes too far apart, her nose, lips not perfect, but altogether she’s not bad’."

Katie attended the school when she was 10.

Holding up a picture of her latest magazine cover, Jimmy replied: "They’re wrong."

The 35-year-old stars in The Giver, her first film role in several years. She recently spoke of the role, telling The Today Show: I'm really excited about where I am right now, this movie. I've had some really wonderful creative experiences. I am just excited about the future."

The Ohio-born actress, who plays a mother in The Giver, spoke about her own relationship with her daughter Suri, and how she has tried to raise Suri as normally as possible.

"I think, of course, you try your best," said Katie. "I try very hard because I am very grateful for my upbringing and my parents and siblings. I try to do what they did for me for my little one.

"The most important thing for me is letting her know how proud I am and that her accomplishments mean everything. It's really just about her and that's what I think is most important." Katie divorced Suri's father, Hollywood star Tom Cruise in 2012. Since her divorce, Katie has been romantically linked to some of Hollywood's leading men including Jason Segal and Jamie Foxx. Her representative stated that there was no truth to the reports, and Katie has always emphasised that her daughter is her top priority.
