Kate's relaxed red carpet hair 'do is easy to recreate

20 JANUARY 2009

She's hardly the showiest of celebrities, refusing to be drawn into a world of size zeros and showbiz parties.

And to go with this image, Kate Winslet is crafting a very casual look that is always elegant but never overblown – beautifully cut gowns, neutral make-up and simply dressed hair.

The hairstyle she wore to the London premiere of Revolutionary Road is easy to recreate.

Roller-set hair first just to give it a little root lift that prevents it looking too lank and unflattering when it's pulled back against the scalp and to help shape the hair at the nape.

Tie hair back slightly higher than the nape then divide it into small sections, winding and waving each back on itself and gripping into place at the base - wind one section around the band to prevent it showing - building up a bun shape as you go.

Finish with hairspray to keep the sections together and pull out small sections at the front, winding quickly and loosely around curling tongs or rollers so they wave slightly around the cheekbones.
