Idina Menzel's successful Broadway career means she is no stranger to embodying the characters she plays, but the 43-year-old seems to have been particularly inspired by her most recent movie role. The star, who voiced Princess Elsa in Disney's hit animated movie Frozen, has dyed her hair an ice-blonde shade, causing fans to note the similarity to Elsa's famous platinum blonde braid.

Although the Wicked singer doesn't update her Instagram page very often, she chose the social media app to unveil her new look, sharing a close-up selfie. "Look what me and my girl @jtfranchuk did today," she captioned the snap. "Needed a change. Loving it! #brunettetoblonde #blondehairdontcare."

The new look is a particularly dramatic change for the American beauty, being the first time that she has ever strayed away from her trademark brown locks. Although she has experimented with different styles and is known to rock both loose waves and chic updos on the red carpet, Idina has always firmly remained a brunette.

It could be that the star has chosen to take inspiration from Princess Elsa following the news that a full-length Frozen sequel is in the works. The first film enjoyed immense global success - grossing over a billion dollars at the box office - making it the highest-grossing film of all time. Although Frozen Fever, a short film sequel, was released, fans called for a full-length feature and after months of speculation it seems they have been heard.

Speaking at the Walt Disney Company's shareholders meeting on Thursday, John Lasseter said: "We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters.

"[Directors] Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that."
