Leading ladies including Jessica Chastain, Sienna Miller and Brie Larson pulled out all the stops for their Golden Globes appearances on Sunday evening, with unique and elegant hairstyles to complement their designer gowns.

Jason Collier, a hairstylist and colourist whose clients include Sienna, Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria, shares his favourite looks with HELLO! and gives his tips on how to try them at home.

Emily Ratajkowski's Textured Wavy Lob

Emily Ratajkowski always looks immaculate on the red carpet, and I love this slightly edgy wavy lob on her for something a little different, especially with her neutral make-up and gorgeous yellow dress. It looks fresh and incredibly chic, without being prim or fussy. I'd use a Toni & Guy Style Fix Curler tong on the hair and a few spritzes of Kérastase Styling Materialiste to give it that gritty texture – I prefer this look with a matte effect rather than a really glossy mirror finish, it just looks cooler and so effortless.

Jessica Chastain's Elegant Up-Do (created by Renato Campora for Moroccanoil)

I love this look on Jessica Chastain – it's perfect for such a special occasion and looks incredible with her stunning blue gown and a diamond necklace. The deep side parting feels really classic and I love that she's kept this look so sleek and elegant. To recreate this look, be sure that hair is completely smooth and tangle-free, and finish with a shine spray to create that glossy Hollywood finish.

Drew Barrymore's Long Loose Waves

Bucking the trend and opting for a boho style will always get a thumbs-up from me, this look always feels really luxe and so stylish. Drew Barrymore has made the perfect choice here, the centre-parting makes a nice sharp contrast to those beautiful beachy waves, plus it really looks beautiful with the statement earrings. If you want to try this look at home, use a curling tong but be sure not to hold the hair around the wand too long – you want very soft, loose waves, not ringlets! Using a wave spray like Redken's Beach Envy Volume Aid will give you that beachy look without crispiness.

Sienna Miller's Ponytail

I love this effortless look! And if you're going to do it, do it like my client Sienna Miller – I think her hair here looks spectacular. The ponytail really showcases her cheekbones; I think this look would be great for those with a rounder face as it just lifts and elongates the whole face. To recreate the look, use plenty of Bumble and bumble's Dry Spun Finish spray to give hair a huge boost and texture, and then use a soft brush to scoop the hair back and up into position. I also recommend spraying your hairgrips with hairspray so they're tacky when you place them into the hair so that they grip all night long.

Brie Larson's Old Hollywood Waves

Such a classic look! This is a style that comes back year after year on the red carpet, and when it looks this fabulous, it's easy to see why. Brie Larson just wears this so well, it sits beautifully with her classic red dress for a totally timeless look. There's three key aspects to getting this look: a deep side parting, plenty of volume at the roots and those soft, loose waves, brushed out for fullness. Use a tailcomb for a really precise parting and a soft-bristle brush to round out the curls for that really typical Hollywood style, and of course plenty of hairspray to set the look.
