You've worked on lots of celebrities – who is the best at giving you free reign over their hair?

Being a hair colour specialist involves listening to where your clients want to go. One of my longest collaborations has been with Ashley Olsen – through years of translating colour, a trust is built, so free reign is a different way of saying "you get my vision".

Chloe Grace Moretz is a favourite here at HELLO! What's the secret to getting her perfect hair colour?

Listening is the cue that needs to be taken. I simply adore this young powerhouse! Her unique take on colour make for a fun and adventurous experience creating together.

Working with Reese Witherspoon must have been a dream come true – and you once said that she is a constant inspiration. Do you ever get starstruck meeting a celebrity client?

Twelve years ago when I began to work with Reese before she won the Academy Award for Walk the Line was a dream. She is truly an Inspiration on so many levels. Sometimes working with people who happen to be famous can feel a bit daunting. So yes, at times I can feel a little star struck, but once we begin the process of achieving the desired look that the person wants I get in my zone.

Whose hair colour do people request the most?

Many women pull up images of Giselle Bundchen and Reese Witherspoon when going for a blonde vibe. Natural looking colours with a bit of pop seem to be requested most. A wonderful client I got to work with flew to L.A. because she researched who did Reese's colour for Big Little Lies.

Do you look at Instagram for inspiration? If so, whose Insta feed do you love?

Of course, Instagram has tons of inspiration. I always check in on Britain's it-girl colourist @nicolaclarkecolour. Clean design pics with pleasing colour schemes from @palisociety and @mrchrismcmillan for his fantastic shapes.

Which celebrity would you love to get your hands on?

A little hand painted sunshine for Meghan Markle, aka the Duchess of Sussex, would be a highlight.

Why did you decide to team up with Moroccanoil?

I was so excited to team up with Moroccanoil because their products contain such high quality ingredients! Their proprietary argan-oil infused formulations are unique in that they instantly transform the hair so it looks shiny, healthy and beautiful, and also improve the condition of the hair so it becomes even healthier over time. My clients undergo so many hair transformations, whether it be for different film roles or events, so maintaining the health of their hair is priority.

What is the common mistake blondes do? Or redheads? Or brunettes?

Tinting one's scalp colour lighter than ones ends. It's not natural looking or cute.

What are the hair colour trends on the horizon?

Red and strawberry blonde! Also mauves and pinks with a rose gold hue.

How do YOU brush wet hair? Is the detangler a fad or do you rate it?

Before brushing wet hair you should always apply the Moroccanoil Treatment – it's a must-have in every woman's hair care arsenal! I love that it's so versatile and I can use it as a conditioning, styling and finishing tool on my clients. The antioxidant-rich argan oil-infused formula really helps nourish and detangle hair while boosting shine. I always suggest that my clients use a non-metal brush, because metal brushes tend to pull and damage hair, whereas non-metal brushes are more suitable for daily detangling and grooming.

What product should we all be applying to coloured hair?

I always suggest using products that prolong hair colour like the Moroccanoil Colour Complete line. Moroccanoil Colour Continue Shampoo and Colour Continue Conditioner extend the results of the ChromaTech Service at home. The shampoo's gentle blend is sulphate free and contains the ideal pH level for coloured hair, so it has the ability to cleanse hair without stripping colour. The duo also features COLORLINK™ technology, which can help rebuild damaged the keratin structure to trap colour within and minimise colour washout. There are countless sources of colour degradation that you encounter daily, so using a regimen that continuously cares for your colour is vital to keeping your hair colour vibrant.

People are more mindful about what products they use on their hair – is natural hair colour the way forward?

Hair damage is inevitable, whether it is chemical damage or physical damage due to environmental elements. However, it is possible to take extra precaution when colouring hair to ensure minimal damage. The Moroccanoil ChromaTech Service is an in-salon service that consists of two products—Moroccanoil ChromaTech PRIME and ChromaTech POST—to help protect and repair hair before and after colouring! The power of two proprietary technologies—ArganID™ and COLORLINK™—combine to help nourish, repair and seal hair for optimal colour retention.

If you're going on holiday to a sunny destination, what's the best way to keep your coloured hair safe?

People are often unaware of the environmental effects on hair, especially coloured hair. Oxidation – a reaction that affects hair colour pigment when hair is exposed to UV rays – can especially cause hair colour to lose vibrancy and appear brassy. Using Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray as a daily leave-in conditioner will help protect hair from oxidation by absorbing damaging UV rays, preventing colour fade and brassiness.

You helped Kim Kardashian go platinum – what’s your number one piece of advice for anyone thinking of making a drastic colour change?

I love a dramatic change in hair colour, but it's so important to make sure that you don't sacrifice the health of your hair doing so! Using a service like Moroccanoil ChromaTech PRIME and ChromaTech POST will help to protect and strengthen the hair from the cortex to promote healthy colouring.

You once said it's all about the eyes – on discovering what hair colour suits you – how does that work?

For warm hazel eyes, think of honey blonde, copper or milk chocolate brunette. For cool blue or black eyes think of icy blonde, auburn or dark chocolate brunette.
