Trend alert: messed up, dressed up – ponies are back

The pony with body at the back
The nearest to a true pony tail was at the Brioni show. Sam says he took his inspiration from the surroundings, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan - a huge, white airy space with lots of natural daylight to go with the collection, which was mainly white. So Sam created a textured ponytail with volume at the crown and back to look fresh and contemporary. "The idea was to have the impression of a neat shape that had been loosened," he says.

Sam used Pantene Pro-V Volume and Body Magnifying Mousse, £2.99, to build enough body to shape the hair away from the scalp at the back before drying and straightening. Hair was then centre parted at the front to the crown. From the crown down to the nape, hair was backcombed to create a rounded profile before all hair was pulled backwards and tied at the nape, with a section of hair wrapped around and gripped into the band. Using a comb, hair was then teased out a little at the back to create more of a rounded shape, before finishing with hairspray.
