Martine McCutcheon has gone for the chop! The Love Actually star, who is known for her trademark long brunette locks, has showed off a chic new 'do on Instagram. Posting a selfie from bed, Martine said she felt "cuter" and "light" but reassured fans that her extensions would probably be making a return in the near future. She wrote: "Off to bed with my new short little bob... for those of you who said you love it long - no doubt the extensions will be back in at some point! But it's lovely to feel cuter and light and chic!!"

The 40-year-old actress won the seal of approval from her followers, with several commenting that the cut made Martine look younger and brought out her cheekbones. "Definitely the right decision... looks fab and you look very young!" wrote one fan, while another posted: "You look absolutely gorgeous and beautiful with short hair, you should consider keeping it short."

Martine, who has a four-year-old son Rafferty with her husband Jack McManus, recently opened up about feeling confident and truly comfortable in her own skin. After losing more than a stone in weight, she told HELLO!: "In the industry I've grown up in, you're so scrutinised, it's what you do – you put on your face and go out there, even if inside you don't feel at all good about yourself. Now, that confidence feels more genuine. I set myself a goal and I've achieved it and, while a stone might not sound like a lot to some people, on my frame it has made a huge difference, not just to how I look but how I feel about myself."

On how motherhood helped her feel more content with life, Martine, who has battled health problems including ME and Lyme Disease, said: "I give thanks every single day that motherhood is something I've been blessed to experience. It sounds like such a cliché but having Rafferty really did put everything into perspective. All those things I'd worried about all my life – the career, the weight – all seemed trivial in comparison to this little person we had created. Once I'd got that perspective, the rest seemed to fall into place."
