Happy birthday Twiggy as Emma Willis recreates iconic image
18 SEPTEMBER 2009
It’s Twiggy’s 60th birthday on September 19 and the model is also being celebrated for the image that made her famous and became one of the most recognisable images across the world.
In a poll amongst 5000 people, the black-and-white portrait of the then 16-year-old, with huge eyes surrounded by spiky fake lashes, was voted the most ‘eye-conic’.
It beat Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s, Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra and Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind.
And to mark the model’s birthday, Murine Eye Drops asked another model famous for her beautiful eyes, Emma Willis, to recreate the image.
It’s part of their Love Your Eyes campaign, aiming to encourage people to care for their eyes the same way they do their hair and skin.
We think Twiggy will be pleasantly surpr-eye-sed ...sorry!

Just like some movie remakes and Picasso, no one can replace Twiggys unique look. It would have made a lot more sense to rerelease her old pictures in different colors.
