Ed Sheeran has shared the secret behind his recent 3.5 stone weight loss. The 25-year-old star opened up about his new healthier lifestyle during an interview on Signal 1 radio this week, and revealed that he has his hockey player girlfriend Cherry Seaborn to thank.

"I didn't realise how active I was on tour. My diet was pizza and beer, but because I was doing two hours a night I was really in shape," Ed said. "I stopped touring and carried on my diet of pizza and beer. Suddenly I didn't fit in anything. I was like, 'All my clothes have shrunk!'"

Ed then revealed that he adopted a new high intensity workout regime, given to him by girlfriend Cherry, to help him get back into shape. "I did ten minutes a day without fail – intervals of 30 seconds sprinting and 30 second jogging," he said. "The key is to not miss a day, so you don't have to do an hour."

It's been a big week for Ed. He has just made history with both of his new singles, Shape of You and Castle on the Hill, reaching over 13 million streams in just 24 hours.

The star – who released the two singles simultaneously on Friday after a year-long hiatus – has beaten the likes of One Direction by smashing Spotify's Day 1 UK and global streaming record, with Shape of You being streamed globally 6.8 million times, and Castle on the Hill, 6.1million times.

Ed also revealed that he had originally written Shape of You with Rihanna in mind, but eventually decided to release it himself. "I was singing some of the lyrics and was like Rihanna is not going to sing these words, so I kept it to myself," he said, before adding: "Castle on the Hill is a love song for Suffolk because I don't think anyone has ever done that.

"I've shot the music video actually in Suffolk and the cast of it are people from my high school. The main guy who looks just like me is weirdly from my sixth form."
