Shape up for summer with top tips from celebrity trainer

Abs: With spring finally starting to bloom and summer tantalisingly close, most of us are counting down the days until we can hit the beach. Ensure that you feel body confident this summer the following tips:

1. Always remember that for the abdominals to show themselves, a low fat, lean diet is a MUST! Avoid simple carbohydrates such as bread, rice, sugar and pasta and load up on fresh vegetables, fish and seasonal fruits.
2. Get yourself into the habit of drinking approximately 1.5 litres of water a day. More often than not your afternoon hunger cravings are a result of dehydration.
3. To work the entire core, kneel on elbows with your legs straightened and rise up onto your toes, forming a plank. In this position, try squeezing your knee towards the opposite elbow for targeted toning, and try to complete three sets of 10-20 movements.
4. For lower abdominal definition, burpees are a fantastic exercise to work the muscles. Start by jumping up, touch your hands to the ground (like you're readying for a push up) and kick both legs back together behind you. Whilst in the plank position, bring your feet back to near your hands, then jump up again. Repeat as many times as you can, aiming for 10-20 repetitions.
