Eva Mendes: 'I don’t have a nanny'

She may have a successful Hollywood career, but Eva Mendes still insists on being a hands-on mother. The actress, who welcomed baby Esmeralda with boyfriend Ryan Gosling in September, said she doesn't have a nanny to help care for her daughter.

Speaking to InStyle magazine, she said: "I'm a very hands-on mom; I don't have a nanny. No matter how tired I am, I just do it."

However Eva isn't allowing her new role as a mother stand in the way of her "ritualistic" beauty regime. The actress, who is the new face of Estée Lauder's anti-ageing skin care line, revealed that she often gets up extra early to pamper herself.

Eva Mendes said she is a hands-on mum to her daughter Esmeralda

"Well sometimes I do it at 4am," she said. "I'm no longer in control of my schedule, and I try to take advantage of the time when she's sleeping. I love to be diligent about my routine every day, especially with my skin. I travel so much that I think it helps keep me grounded."

She added: "I'm a new mom and I'm sleep deprived, so my eyes are my main focus."

Eva has previously said that becoming a mother has put everything into perspective – and made her appreciate her own mother even more.

"Now I understand so much," she revealed during an experience on Extra. "My mother's never gotten more 'I love you so much mummy' texts, I mean randomly… yeah, I get it now."

The Hitch star also said that while her daughter is sleeping through the night now, baby Esmeralda will occasionally surprise her.

"You never know, right. Something random can happen and she's just suddenly not sleeping through the night and you're like, 'wait, I thought we were sleeping through the night, what's up?'

"Why does it always happen at three or four in the morning?" she laughed.

Eva also shared her secret to keeping Ryan Gosling, one of Hollywood's hunkiest men, happy. "You can't do sweatpants," she said. "Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!"
