It's a Backstreet boy! Nick Carter and his wife Lauren have revealed they are expecting a baby boy. The couple, who announced that they are expecting their first child together in October, discovered their baby's gender live on Dancing with the Stars on Monday.

The revelation came after Nick scored a perfect score of 30 points for his contemporary dance with professional partner Sharna Burgess. The celebrations continued backstage as Nick and Lauren opened a giant box that released dozens of blue balloons.

After learning their baby's gender the couple shared a kiss and hug while the rest of the cast applauded. Nick later shared a picture of himself and Lauren together on Twitter, writing: "It's official! #BabyBackstreetBoy."

The baby boy will be the first child for Nick and Lauren, who tied the knot at the Bacara resort in Santa Barbara, California in 2014.

Until he met 32-year-old Lauren, Nick could never have imagined settling down. "I said I'd never get married," he told People magazine at the time of their wedding.

Now, though, the 35-year-old seems ready to be family man. He changed his party lifestyle for sports and hobbies a few years ago. "Working out definitely helped my self esteem, and it helped to kind of push it all aside. I just started replacing drinking and the parties... with healthier things like sports, video games."

Nick has also thrown himself into new challenges, and topped the leaderboard on this week's Dancing with the Stars. He has been combining training with Backstreet Boys performances.

His dance partner Shauna says Nick has "put a lot of pressure on himself to be great", adding: "I really see how much he wants this; how much he wants to make the Backstreet Boys proud; how much he wants to make himself proud."

It's clear that the baby of the Backstreet bunch will have the same attitude to fatherhood.
