Congratulations to Russell Brand and his fiancée Laura Gallacher! The couple have become first-time parents after welcoming a baby together.

During a performance at the Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday night, the comedian made the surprise announcement. Daniel Crann, who was in the audience, told The Mirror: "He didn't confirm if it was a girl or a boy."

He added: "He was conscious of the clock and made sure he was off stage by just approaching 9pm as he 'needed to get down the M21 as my girlfriend has just had a baby'."

It was revealed in May that comedian Russell and partner Laura were expecting a child together, with reports at the time suggesting she was about five-months pregnant.

He later took to his social media pages to share a snap of himself hiding behind a book titled The Expectant Dad's Handbook, the picture was captioned: "Right then. My mum bought me this. Time to get ready! #trewlit #bookstagram #parenting."

Earlier this year, during a candid chat on The Jonathan Ross Show, Russell said that he had left his "lothario" ways behind him, adding that he feels "a lot more settled now".

"[I am enjoying monogamy] because there is a baby coming," he confessed. "I'm in a monogamous relationship now so I'm a lot calmer… I like it as a matter of fact. I live a quiet rural life now out in the country… this animal husbandry and this new venture I think will soon put me back on top."

Russell and Laura, who is the younger sister of TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, have been in an on and off relationship since 2007, but are believed to have settled down during a romantic break to Rome in 2015.
