Scent selection: Perfect perfume application

08 MAY 2008

Fragrance is one of the most expensive components of a woman's beauty wardrobe, so make the most of every drop by applying it in the most potent places…

Pulse points (wrists, neck, behind ears) used to be the recommended strategic spots, the thinking being the pulsing would help the scent emanate outwards.

Warm areas are more effective, however – we all know how pungent aromas become in heat. So that's elbows and backs of knees, which will reinvigorate the scent as you fold your limbs, décolleté, neck…

If it's a spray, spray into the air in front of you and walk into the droplets to get an allover hit – but beware if you're wearing delicate fabrics, particularly silk or cotton, which can discolour.

A quick burst over long hair will help the scent spread as your hair moves, too.
