Worth waiting for? Mariah Carey's new fragrance is Forever

Mariah's new fragrance is as romantic and feminine as the singer's reputation demands, with gardenia and tuberose at its heart

She’s sold 200m records and looks set to have break into Hollywood with her critically acclaimed role in Precious.

But that doesn’t mean Mariah Carey is leaving her reputation for romance and girliness behind.

While she’s been in town to launch her new album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, she’s also taken time out to promote her new fragrance, a truly feminine affair.

Forever – the perfect name for such an enduring star, which was fortunately already licensed by Elizabeth Arden, the cosmetics firm behind the fragrance – is everything you’d expect.

An ‘opulent floral’, it’s light, romantic, fresh, feminine, but not too sweet, opening with watery top notes combining neroli, lotus blossom and green apple.

A rich, floral heart of tuberose and gardenia dries down to a base of white musks and exotic woods.

The bottle is somehow classic, looking as though it’s made for a dressing table with its solid shape and cut-glass effect, but with a slightly futuristic feel in the precise angles.

Mariah said she went to her own bathroom for inspiration for the design – it’s where she keeps her collection of old perfume bottles.

Of course, Mariah kept the assembled Press waiting, for longer than an hour, before heading off to London’s Westfield shopping centre where she was mobbed – the fragrance is available only in Boots Westfield, Oxford Street and Liverpool Street as well as at boots.com – and then onto a party at Jalouse nightclub.
