Six of the best: Daily Moisturisers

06 MARCH 2013

Alongside a bottle of water, juice and breakfast, a daily dose of hydrating moisturiser is essential for starting the day at your very best.

Not only is topping up on moisture levels vital for supple, healthy looking skin, it will also ensure that your face has a protective barrier against the day's harsh damages. This helps to prevent dryness and improve tone and texture all whilst providing the perfect base for make-up.

Whether you spend your days in the office or in the sunshine, finding a base with SPF is a great place to start for most people. But, as with most items of skincare, it's essential when selecting a moisturiser to find a product that matches your skin type.

For Californian-born Jennifer Aniston she says that she rarely uses anything other than Dr Hauschka's Moisturising Day Cream which the actress finds particularly soothing:

"I’ve used Dr Hauschka products for years; they really suit my skin and every time I try something else my skin reacts badly, so I stick to what I know works".

For those with sensitive skin like Jennifer, many will benefit by looking out for basic moisturisers free from chemicals, silicones or preservatives. Kate Middleton was even spotted purchasing one such highstreet product on King's Road in London as she picked up Nivea's Pure and Natural Day Cream for just over five pounds.

If you suffer with dry skin, a cream that is rich in essential oils such as jojoba, shea butter is ideal for quenching dehydrated and flaky areas by using natural properties.

But to really inject vitality back into the skin's surface, look for products with moisture-locking ingredients. Some examples include glycerine and hyaluronic acid which help to draw hydration from the air into the skin.

Even those with a more shine-prone complexion still need to moisturise. Hydration levels in the skin differ from oil content so, whilst you may believe that your skin doesn't need that extra something, it may still be dehydrated under the surface. Luckily, there are now many oil-free alternatives on the market which could be your skin saviour solution.

To take preventative measures as you begin to see the first signs of ageing skin, a cream that is rich in nutrients and antioxidants is perfect for reducing the risk of fine lines. Ingredients that include like vitamin C, white and green tea should help to fight free radicals the cell damage that causes skin to age in the first place.
