James's old friend TV star Johnny Vaughan, who used to share a flat with the groom, toasts the bridal couple

Jimmy Tarbuck was moved to tears when his only son James, 33, married 30-year-old Sacha, the only daughter of Toni and Pauline Mascolo, the founders of the Toni & Guy hairdressing empire.

“It was so emotional when I heard them taking their vows, I must admit I did shed a few tears,” confesses the 61-year-old comedian. “He’s my only son and he’s very important to me.”

Jimmy wasn’t the only Tarbuck overcome by emotion during the traditional Catholic ceremony at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in London’s Mayfair: his wife Pauline and daughters, actress and presenter Liza, and interior designer Cheryl, were seen to wipe away a tear, too

As for the bride’s father Toni, when he saw his only daughter coming down the stairs of her hotel on the way to the church, he quite lost his breath. “For me, my princess had truly become a fairy-tale princess,” he said later.

Well-known faces among the congregation, included TV star Johnny Vaughan, Ed Allen, son of comedian Dave Allen, Cilla Black, Terry Wogan, Michael Parkinson, Sir Henry Cooper and Chelsea footballer Roberto Di Matteo.
