Unlike her parents, little Judith Palmer wasn’t wearing Purdey clothes at her christening – but for that she could be forgiven. Instead, the four-and-a-half-month-old girl was dressed in one of the family robes worn by generations of the distinguished Bathurst family before her, including her mother, Lady Henrietta.
The formal family christening in the Bathurst family chapel in Cirencester Parish Church was an emotional occasion for Henrietta and her husband. With Neil out of his wheelchair for the first time after a horrific car accident almost a year ago, the couple were able to celebrate both Judith’s baptism and Neil’s improving health.
Fashion designer Henrietta looked radiant in a bright red coat and matching hat which she had created herself for the new Purdey women’s line. Moving slowly but steadily at her side as he accustomed himself to his new crutches was Neil, also wearing his wife’s designs, looking down proudly at his baby daughter who was taking part in her first family occasion.
