Barbara Windsor and Mike Osman attended the glittering fundraiser

The Valentine's Ball was in aid of the Rhys Daniels Trust, which helps families with seriously ill children

With heart-shaped balloons and long-stemmed red roses scattered throughout the ballroom at the Park Lane Hilton, there was no mistaking that the glittering event taking place was the annual Rhys Daniels Trust Valentine’s Ball.

Now in it’s fifth year, the fundraiser attracted almost 700 guests, many of whom are well-known faces of the screen and stage. Among the celebrities who danced the night away at the sumptuous affair were EastEnders star Barbara Windsor, actor Billy Murray, formerly of The Bill, TV traveller Anna Walker and actresses Danniella Westbrook and Samantha Janus.

It’s a tribute to the hard work and dedication of two people – Barry and Carmen Daniels – that so many stars support the Rhys Daniels Trust.

In 1998, the couple’s brave son Rhys died of Batten’s disease, a rare and incurable neuro-degenerative disorder, a week before his eighth birthday. Shortly afterwards the Daniels family were dealt a double tragedy when Rhys’s older sister Charly succumbed to the same illness.
