He’s the envy of Robbie Williams and a heartthrob to millions. He’s starred in his own TV special and has already secured a fortune – and that’s just in a few weeks.
Now, with his Number One debut double A-side single Evergreen/Anything is Possible - which last week was on course to become the fastest-selling British debut record of all time – and an invitation to star at the Buckingham Palace Golden Jubilee pop concert, Will Young is set to scale even greater heights of fame.
The handsome 23-year-old with the lantern jaw and trademark wide grin who beat 10,000 contestants to win ITV’s talent contest Pop Idol has already kissed goodbye to his old life and been catapulted into the limelight with all its trimmings – the parties, the celebrity friends – not to mention the hordes of female admirers.
Considered a great catch during his Exeter University days, the former politics student will no doubt cope with his new-found popularity with typical aplomb. “Initially, I was worried about how I’d fit into the role of being a pop idol. But now I know that I’m on the right track,” he said recently. “I feel very confident and I’m happy for people to look at me when I walk into the room.”
