The Gold Gala organised by the British Red Cross to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee was a suitably glittering affair at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office with Queen Rania Al-Abdullah as guest of honour.

The crusading Queen of Jordan was in the UK on a series of engagements highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Palestinian communities. During her visit to London she also addressed the House of Lords and joined Cherie Blair in launching a major new medical and food appeal.
