He’s best known as the voice behind the number one single, Everything I Do (I Do It For You), but Bryan Adams has taken on a surprising new role – as one of the Queen’s official Golden Jubilee photographers.
The 42-year-old singer, an experienced portraitist who has in the past captured the likes of Elizabeth Hurley on film, recently spoke of his session with the monarch. “It was a great experience, really fun,” he says. “(Palace staff) were really nice and it was very unpretentious. You were suddenly talking with the Queen, and it’s just you and her.”
Bryan was sure to keep his cool in an effort to make Her Majesty feel at home in front of the lens during the royal sitting. “I tried really had not to get too sweaty about it,” he explains. “I wanted her to feel comfortable and I didn’t want to do anything too out of protocol.”
In the past, the Canadian rocker has taken portraits for charity, including a recent photo collection of famous British women. And he’s quite pleased with the snaps of his latest high-profile subject, which will appear in a Windsor Castle exhibition. Bryan says the shots are “very luminous, very bright” and the Queen “looks very beautiful.” He adds: “I got some great pictures of the corgis, too.”
