He's the mind behind Westlife, 5ive and UK and American versions of Pop Idol, and now music guru Simon Cowell has introduced what he hopes will be the next global phenomenon an operatic boy band.
Hunky foursome Il Divo, which means "divine performer" or "male diva" in Italian, made their public debut on Tuesday at a champagne reception in London, where they sang their upcoming single, Regressa Mi, a classical version of Toni Braxton's Unbreak My Heart.
All in their early 30s, the photogenic quartet American David Miller, Sebastien Izabard from France, Swiss tenor Urs Buhler and Carlos Marin of Spain were selected after a two-year international search for tomorrow's hottest opera stars.
Il Divo's first disc, mainly of interpretations of romantic pop tunes, will be released on November 1. "It's for
people who are too intimated by opera to go to ENO, but who love the romance of the music," says Simon. "I am more proud of this album than anything else I've ever been involved with." |
