Superstar Celine Dion was on suitably dazzling form when she performed at the World Music Awards in Las Vegas, where she received the Diamond award for oustanding sales.

The Canadian songstress treated the packed arena to a spectacular set that was taped for a TV programme which will be watched by an estimated one billion viewers across the world.

Mother-of-one Celine received her award, which acknowledges her staggering sales of 175 million albums worldwide, from actor Michael Douglas during the two-hour extravanganza.

Among the other top names singing at the event was Celine's fellow Canadian Avril Lavigne, who has just got engaged to Deryck Whibley, frontman of the band Sum 41. Usher, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Josh Groban, Marc Anthony and Kanye West, who scooped the best new male artist award, also performed.

Best new female artist went to Hilary Duff, and best new group to Maroon 5. The proceeds from this year's World Music Awards show will go to the Princess Grace clinic in Africa.
