The king of demonic rock, Marilyn Manson, was all made up after his latest trip to London. Brian Warner, as he is also known, was sporting his trademark look of heavy black and white make-up when he arrived for the Kerrang Awards on Thursday evening.

Accompanying him to the prizegiving was his fiancée Dita Von Teese, who made a rather different style statement in strapless chiffon. And although the music industry's most controversial singer isn't much give to smiling, he might have been forgiven a smirk or two after being honoured with the event's Icon Award for his "notoriety that has spread all over the globe".

Marilyn wasn't the only rock wildman making his mark in the British capital, as US punk band Green Day were named best band and best live act. Welsh newcomers Funeral For A Friend were also on winning form, beating off competition from more established acts like Feeder, Stereophonics and Placebo to take home the trophy for best British band.

This year's event was treated to a touch of Hollywood glamour, too, in the shape of actress Juliette Lewis. The Tinseltown performer, who herself fronts a rock band called Juliette And The Licks, took on presenting duties for the evening.
