Mariah Carey is used to playing before adoring crowds, but yesterday The Emancipation Of Mimi singer had a special audience at Madison Square Garden. The 35-year-old had been asked read to some young fans at the iconic venue as a special treat.

The youngsters, who were given a chance to meet their idol after winning a radio contest, listened spellbound as she dipped into the pages of Peter Pan. During the reading, actress Cathy Rigby - who is currently starring in a musical version of the children's classic - hovered overhead enacting scenes from the story.

Mariah was clearly delighted with the company of her young admirers, but there was probably an added reason for her smiles. The sultry performer had just swept the board at Tuesday's Billboard Awards in Las Vegas, and is tipped to receive a clutch of Grammy nods when contenders for the prestigious gongs are announced later today.
