There was plenty of world-class musical talent on offer, but it was the dazzling display of sartorial elegance from a succession of female celebs, including Madonna and Joss Stone, that took centre stage at the Brit Awards.
After her sizzling act at the US Grammys, the queen of pop was back in London looking stunning in a fuchsia pink cocktail dress.
With husband Guy Ritchie by her side - silencing speculation about strains in their five-year marriage - Madonna was on spirited form. The couple only stayed the 30 minutes it took for her to pick up her gong for best international artist and present best album statuette to Coldplay, however.
Having ditched the Julien Macdonald bridal gown she modelled during Fashion Week, Paris Hilton also made a sensational entrance in a gold, thigh-skimming affair by the Welsh designer. With £6,000 worth of dress and miles of shapely pins on show, the American socialite made sure she got plenty of attention.
And there was stiff competition on that score from Rapper Kanye West, who posed with a posse of scantily clad dancers covered in gold body paint.
Collecting her award for best British female, Scottish singer KT Tunstall paid a heart-felt tribute to her parents "for changing my whole life by adopting me".
Leeds-based band Kaiser Chiefs scooped three prizes including Best British group, while Coldplay and James Blunt took two awards each. The former soldier quipped that it was "amazing" to be recognised as best male since "I've been accused so many times of singing like a girl".
