SOLO STAR FERGIE GETS A TASTE OF ENGLAND ON MTV

21 SEPTEMBER 2006

Some traditional English foods might not be to everyone's taste but Black Eyed Peas singer Stacy Ferguson gamely tried some specialties when she made an appearance on MTV Total Request Live in New York this week.

The 31-year-old California-native, whose chart-topping first solo single is called London Bridge, tucked into some Brit dishes which had been whipped up in honour of her disc's title. She could've been forgiven for showing some apprehension as she sampled blood pudding followed by spotted dick for dessert, however.

Waited on by a Palace Guard lookalike, it seems the singer has some real royal connections across the pond. Her deliberately mispelled album title The Dutchess refers to sharing a name with the Duchess of York and the pair have been in touch. "Sarah Ferguson called me," she told The Guardian. "I was, like, 'the Fergie?' She was very complimentary and flattering."

"It's an exciting time in my life," says the chanteuse, who has been with Grammy-winning outfit The Black Eyed Peas for over three years. She describes her album - a mix of hip-hop, reggae and rock - as an autobiographical effort and something she's been planning for some time. "All of the love songs are definitely about different boyfriends that I've had," she recently explained. "There are breakups, there are make-ups... a lot of vulnerability which I think people haven't seen from me".
