Jennifer Hudson's baby son is quite clearly the apple of his mother's eye.

Ever since she welcomed little David Daniel in August, the 28-year-old singer has been proudly discussing her first experience of  motherhood

Just last month she enthused: "He's the cutest thing in the world! He's the best."

But as every new mum knows, it's important to enjoy downtime too. That's what the Grammy-winning star did this week, joining Hollywood's young set for a night out.

Her curvaceous figure showed off to perfection in a baby pink halterneck gown, Jennifer caught up with stars including Shakira, Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan at a gala in New York.

The glamorous affair - which took place at the Whitney Museum of American Art - was held in celebration with Versace, and of course the label's leading lady Donatella was also in attendance.

Fans of the Oscar-winning Dreamgirls actress - who first found fame on American Idol - will be looking forward to seeing even more of their favourite star come winter thanks to a upcoming TV show.

Titled Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home For Christmas, the music special follows the talented songwriter as she returns to her Chicago hometown.

There she share memories of the music, people and places that set the stage for her career.
