One Direction go on a health kick

25 MARCH 2013

One Direction will be ditching fast food for fruit and veg now that a full-time private chef has been hired to accompany them on their current world tour.

The five-piece boyband's management have employed chef Sarah Nicholas of Sarah's Kitchen make sure that the boys, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, eat healthily.

"Sarah has been charged with getting more fruit and veg down them, and staving off colds as much as possible," a source said. "They’re currently drinking loads of smoothies."

Because of their hectic schedule, their team want them to eat properly so that they are on top form for their gigs.

Chef Sarah worked with the band on their last tour and has also cooked for Olly Murs, JLS and Will Young. The five boys, who are known to enjoy Mexican food, will be eating healthier versions of their favourite foods under Sarah's direction.

During the first US leg of 1D's tour, Louis and Zayn came down with colds. Both were told to increase their vitamin intake and had vitamin B12 injections.

It isn't the first time that the boys have been put on a special diet. In August 2012 they were reportedly under strict orders to eat more vegetables after their heavy stage make-up caused them to break out in spots. They were given three vegetable drinks a day to help clear up their skin.

The teen heartthrobs are currently on the road performing their 118-date Take Me Home tour and will travel as far as Australia, New Zealand and Japan. They are currently on the UK leg of their tour and played two nights in Birmingham this weekend. They have also been filming their 3D concert movie This Is Us in recent weeks.
