'X Factor' star Ella Henderson's parents held by police after raid on family home

23 APRIL 2013

X Factor star Ella Henderson's parents were held by police on Monday after a raid on their family home in Lincolnshire.

In the operation, thought to have been part of a money-laundering investigation, officers swooped on the £650,000 family home owned by the teenage singer's dad Sean, 47, and mum Michelle, 49, in the village of Tetney, near Grimsby.

Police also raided another detached house owned by the couple – currently up for sale for more than £375,000 – in their village.

It is understood that Ella's mum was arrested after police arrived in force at around 6am at Tetney Manor, the family home they built about five years ago.

The X Factor finalist's Dad, who is also her manager, was arrested in London by officers from the Metropolitan Police. He was expected to be driven back up north for questioning by Humberside Police.

Ella, 17, whose mentor in last year’s ITV talent contest was Tulisa Contostavlos, stunned audiences on X Factor when she sang her own song Missed, which she wrote in honour of her late Glaswegian grandad Willie.

Despite her jaw-dropping performances the pretty brunette was later voted off in what the show's presenter Dermot O'Leary said was "one of the biggest shocks we've ever had on the results show."

Although she was voted out before the final, coming sixth, Ella was signed to Simon Cowell's SyCo record label in January and is recording her debut album while living in London.

The talented teenager isn't letting the drama involving her parents burst her bubble. She tweeted to her 666,665 Twitter fans on Monday: "Morning.. I'm back! .. And heading to the office to plan my lil surprise for u all with the label ;) Cannot wait for this!!"

Later she posted a picture of herself looking gorgeous and glamorous, blowing a kiss at the camera. The caption read: "Bows & kisses".

The police have confirmed two arrests in a statement, but not revealed the names of those arrested. "A 49-year-old woman was arrested at one of the addresses and has been taken to Grimsby Police Station to be questioned in connection with money laundering offences.

"As part of the same inquiry, a 47-year-old man was arrested on behalf of Humberside Police by officers in the Metropolitan Police and he will be questioned in due course by detectives from Humberside Police."
