Music mogul Simon Cowell has hit back at critics who claim he's lost his Midas touch. The X Factor boss saw the show suffer from its worst ratings last year, and commented "What I have realised is there will be bumps in your life but the fun is fixing them. If it was always an easy life that would be boring." Jetting across to LA from the UK, the music mogul opened up to his fans on Twitter to kill time on his plane journey, denying reports that his Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor creations were going down the pan. "Have just finished the Britain’s Got Talent auditions," wrote Simon. "We still have a lot of talent in this country."

On a more ominous note, the star revealed that he had some tricks up his sleeve to regenerate X Factor’s flagging format.

Tulisa Contostavlos has reportedly been sacked from the show's next series, while Britney Spears has decided to leave the US version of the talent competition to focus on her career. "There will be a lot of changes on X Factor UK and USA. But good changes. I feel excited for both shows this year," Simon said.On a deeper note, Simon became pensive on his plane journey, and thanked his fans and loved ones for their loyal support. "With everything I have been working on it made me realise that your friends and family are still the most important things in your life," said the businessman. "Sorry to cram all this in. Have read some strange things about me recently. I am happy. Healthy. And enjoying life. Hope you are too," added the star. "I was a little deep tonight but it was one of those nights you realise you have a lot to be thankful for." As well as sharing his thoughts with his fans, Simon also praised one of X Factor’s most successful, exports, One Direction.

He also spoke about the stars of last series, Ella Henderson and James Arthur, who have kept quiet since their success. “At Syco we are working hard on James and Ella. I have a very good feeling about these two,” Simon, 53, said. “One Direction continue to amaze me. Hard workers but still the nicest guys you could hope to work with,” revealed the star. Ant and Dec are in complete support of their bosses’ comments. Speaking at the RTS Awards, Dec said that the pair respected Simon for being so honest. "I read them this morning," Dec said.  "I think he had one of those moments when you wanna get everything of your chest. He has no filter, that's why we like him."
