The streets of Sunhill would be even more fraught with danger if it weren't for the watchful eye of Detective Constable Gary Best. Ciaran Griffiths, who like his character, originally hails from Manchester, is the actor behind the show's toughest lawman. It's something of an irony that he's made his name playing a no-nonsense cop as his first high-profile role was as the armed robber Dean Sykes in Coronation Street.
