Sally Hawkins

The London-born daughter of writers of children's books, Sally has racked up an impressive CV since graduating from RADA. Despite a passion for comedy and love of making people laugh her credits include appearances on Little Britain - many of her roles have had a dark edge. They include a breakout performance in 2005's Fingersmith where her character was incarcerated in a mad house to her appearance as a pregnant woman in turmoil in Vera Drake. She's combined TV and film work with ease, counting the gritty Layer Cake and The Painted Veil among her movie outings. But it is her TV work, such as 2006's Shiny Shiny Bright New Hole In My Heart and as Anne Elliot in the 2007 adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion, which has won her most recognition.
