Your character sometimes beats up men twice her size. Are you a tough cookie in real life?

"I thought I knew how to look after myself after growing up with two brothers, but now they're both much bigger than me I'm not so sure!. I do adopt a sort of London attitude that I think has a certain 'back off' quality about it but I'm an absolute drip on the phone!"

What are the values you most value in those close to you?
"Loyalty, a sense of humour, a certain cosiness, and an enjoyment of good food!"
How does the rising sensitivity about terrorism in Britain affect work on a series like Spooks?

"Although it is a fictional show Spooks does have a certain responsibility to its audience. It's an intelligent drama, and the writers do such a great job of varying storylines to prevent the show promoting just one view of the state of the world. As a member of the cast it is very important to make a firm distinction between being an actor and being someone whose political views people would wish to listen to!"

You had a small part in the Woody Allen flick Match Point with Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Would you like to follow in the Irish star's footsteps by trying to make a name for yourself in Hollywood?

"Most definitely. I'm committed to projects here at the moment, but I would like to work in both American and European film in the near future."

How did you prepare for portraying your character in Spooks?

"I was given a fascinating array of literature written by past and present 'spooks' -obviously not using their real names - describing operations and certain events. I also chose her shoes! All great characters begin with their shoes!"

Who was your greatest childhood hero?

"Supergirl. It was one of our most-watched, worn-out old videos and I thought that Helen Slater, who played her, was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen."

What famous actor would you most like to kiss in a TV or movie role?
"Ooh! Sam Rockwell, especially in Charlie's Angels. Jason Bateman from Arrested Development is absolutely gorgeous and funny, and a certain Raza Jaffrey's quite a cracker."

Is it true you're going to be appearing in Dr Who? If so, can you tell us a bit about your role?

"It's true! I'm filming in Cardiff at the moment with the nicest possible cast and crew, and it couldn't be more fun. Dr Who is particularly keen to keep storylines under wraps, but I will say that the character wears my fantasy wardrobe and that she's a far cry from Jo Portman!"

Of all the directors you have worked with, who has made the biggest impression on you and why?

"Woody Allen, because he's Woody Allen. That may sound silly, but when he walked towards me on my first day wearing Woody Allen's glasses and with Woody Allen's voice I was pretty dumbstruck. There. I'll say it again in case you didn't get that - Woody Allen."

Do you think you'd have what it takes to be a real life spy?

"Absolutely not. I can't keep a secret and I need ten hours sleep!"
