Born: January 13, 1982 Actress Famous for: Her Bafta-nominated portrayal of governess Jane Eyre in the TV adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic
Brought up in Sheperton, Surrey, Ruth - who has three older brothers - was a straight A student who read History at Nottingham University before pursuing her acting dream with a post-grad course at the London Academy Of Music And Arts. Briefly a teenage model, she earned her only previous screen credit in the sitcom Suburban Shootout before capturing the nation's hearts in 2006 as Jane Eyre opposite Toby Stephens. Her portrayal of the homely governess earned her a Bafta nod, and she went on to land a role in Stephen Poliakoff drama Capturing Mary with Maggie Smith.
