25 JUNE 2001
Florence, one of the most elegant cities in the world, famous for its Michelangelo statues and once home to the Medici family, is now playing host to another exceptional figure, as Queen Rania of Jordan takes a break during a visit to Italy to appreciate its beautiful landmarks.

The glamorous Queen, Wife of King Abdullah II arrived in Italy for a charity gala dinner. As the guest of honour of the country’s fashion elite, she was welcomed by Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana’s top duo, as well as Danish model – turned – photographer Helena Christensen amongst others. In such trend – setting company, the Queen’s own style has been a focus of her visit.

Diplomatically choosing to wear the creation of a young Jordanian designer to attend the exclusive gala, Rania looked spectacular in a simple but classic black dress, complemented by understated but eye-catching tear-drop diamond earrings.

She later indulged her evident eye for beauty with a tour of the spectacular and culturally rich city of Florence. Listening attentively to the Florentine guide as he pointed out sights such as the Palazzo Vecchio, Rania remained the centre of attention as she walked about the streets.

Photographed inside the building, the Queen of Jordan – wearing an orange shirt, offset by a beige skirt, with a pearl necklace and earrings – looked every inch the fashion icon she has become.
