13 JUNE 2003
Prime Suspect star Helen Mirren heads up the roster of big names on this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list, looking set to receive the title of Dame.

Along with the 57-year-old actress, Good Life and Monarch Of The Glen star Richard Briers and pianist Jools Holland are to be presented with royal accolades as well – a CBE and OBE, respectively.

Earlier this week it was revealed that England captain David Beckham would also be honoured, for both his skills as an athlete and his stature as a role model off the pitch.

"It's superb news," said the footballer's dad Ted after hearing the news. "I imagine he'll think 'Blimey! I'm only 28 and I've got an OBE'."

Among those appearing on the annual award list last year were Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger, football hero Bobby Robson and marathon winner Paula Radcliffe.
