Frederik and Mary as romantic as ever

Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife Princess Mary have left onlookers in Denmark's western city of Aarhus in little doubt that they are still madly in love. The royal couple kissed passionately on the balcony of the town hall, much to the delight of thousands of well-wishers who turned out to see them.

It was a world away from the gentle kiss on the hand Frederik offered his beloved when they announced their engagement a little under a year ago. But since they tied the knot on May 14, the pair no longer have to worry about royal protocol regarding displays of affection.

Frederik and Mary's latest demonstration of warmth for one another came as they kicked off a four-day tour of Western Denmark. The couple was greeted by a huge crowd when they disembarked from the royal yacht Danneborg in Aarhus harbour.

The princess wore a red dress with matching knee-length coat and a black straw hat for the occasion, while her husband looked characteristically dashing in his naval uniform. After meeting local officials, the couple were taken by horse-drawn carriage to the town centre, where they went on a walkabout to meet their subjects.

Frederik and Mary are taking a traditional summer cruise around Denmark. Then, on Thursday, they join Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik in Soenderborg near the German border.
