Prince Charles has invited the owners of a Cumbrian B&B to his April 8 nuptials.

The Prince, who has stayed with Hazel and Joe Relph several times over the last few years, once again put up at Yew Tree Farm Guesthouse while visiting the Lake District this week.

The pair confessed, however, to being somewhat taken aback when the invitation came through their door - just a few days before Charles himself checked in.

"I was speechless, absolutely speechless," admitted Hazel. "We got the invitation before he arrived and it was wonderful. I had not a clue what the letter was about – it was a complete surprise."

The couple, who have two grown-up children, will be among the aristocrats and dignitaries mingling at Windsor Castle after Charles and Camilla make their vows next month. Hazel and Joe told reporters outside their home they had already picked out what they would wear for the big day, as well as a gift "from the local area".

Prince Charles, meanwhile, seemed to be thoroughly enjoying his sojourn in the Lake District. He gamely posed for pictures in a "paper heart" chair during a visit to a cabinet maker's studio in nearby Braithwaite. And he was careful to make sure reporters outside his friends' guesthouse knew that, as far as he is concerned, Yew Tree Farm Guesthouse comes "highly recommended".
