They'd predicted snow, but Camilla and Charles' big day dawned bright and sunny, with blue skies smiling over the enthusiastic crowds who lined the wedding route in and around Windsor.
Union Jacks decorated the streets and were waved aloft by well-wishers - from tots to grannies, tourists to locals - who'd come along to show their support for the couple who have weathered so many vicissitudes to reach this moment.
And their excitement was rewarded by an early glimpse of the bride herself leaving Clarence House for Windsor Castle, where she was to prepare for the 13.30 ceremony at the local Guildhall.
The bride and groom were then to leave Windsor together for the drive to the Guildhall, in a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI which was presented to the Queen for her Silver Jubilee in 1978 and has been used regularly for official duties since, including for Prince Edward's wedding to Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1999. |
