The boys, who are the children of Prince Joachim and his charismatic ex-wife Alexandra, accompanied Henrik as he greeted the members of a local hunt. Little Nikolai seemed a bit overwhelmed at one point by the line of smartly dressed riders, but otherwise he was in high spirits.

Thirty-six-year old Joachim recently spoke candidly of his efforts to provide stability for his sons following his divorce from their mother in April. "It's an enormous consolation," Joachim confided. "I have done my best to explain to them, as clearly as one can to children that young, that they are not guests here. They are just as much at home here as at their other address."
